Isaac Giles Mrs. Lehmann English 1A 12 March 2019 Broken Ice One mourning, Isaac was sleeping in his bed when Isaiah, his older brother, ran into his room and pulled him off his bed. “Let’s go outside. It’s nice outside,” “But why do you have to wake me up this early in the morning,” “It’s 12:00. You need to get up, and Luke is already down by the pond.” As soon as Isaiah left, Isaac got up and walked to his dresser, put on shorts and a t-shirt, and slipped on his shoes and ran outside to join his brothers. It was winter, and the blizzard had just passed, so it was a warm day. There was still snow and ice all around the house and pond. Isaac saw his brothers over by the pond, so he ran over to them. When Isaac got there, his brothers were already walking on the frozen pond. Isaac ran on the ice, but Isaiah told him that parts of the ice were weak. He pointed to the middle of the ice. “Don’t go over there unless you want to fall into the water.” Isaac slid on the ice and finally Isaiah told Isaac and Luke that he was going inside. Luke said he was going home, too. Isaiah was halfway home and Luke just started to leave the pond. When Isaac got to the middle. Isaiah said in a loud voice, “don’t step there!” It was already too late. As Isaac walked onto the ice, it broke under the pressure of his weight, and he plunged into the ice-cold water, cutting his legs in the process. When Isaac fell into the water, he felt it rise to his chest. The mud caught him by his feet, and Isaac felt the cold hit him, making him freeze for more than a second. He felt pain hit him from the cuts that the ice left on him. Isaac frantically tried to get out of the water. The ice kept breaking, until finally Isaac found a spot and got out of the cold water. In the process of doing so he cut his legs even more. Isaac got up, crying from the pain, and limped to his brothers. His brother, Isaiah, helped him get home while Luke ran back to get their mom. When they got to the house, Isaac had blood and cuts all over his legs. He got into the shower, which hurt him, even more because the hot water was hitting his frozen legs and burned his open cuts. Later that day, Isaac was sitting on the couch with bandages wrapped around his legs. He has still wondered how he had gotten out of the cold water but he will always remember how he fell in ice-cold water while he was wearing shorts. What I learn was not to go onto a pond knowing that it will break and second not go outside with shorts. Power line One night, Isaac and his brothers were playing a game of cops and robbers. Isaiah and Luke were trying to find Isaac to put him in jail, but they seemed unable to find him. Isaac was hiding 20 yards away from them, but they couldn’t see where he was until Isaac stumbled. His brothers heard him and shined a flashlight over to Isaac. Finally, they saw him, so Isaiah yelled, “he’s right there.” They ran toward Isaac. Isaac turned and ran, trying to escape from his brothers. Suddenly, he saw a tall stick protruding from the ground. He thought he could jump over it, so he jumped, realizing too late that it was a fallen power line and into it making Isaac hit the ground, losing his breath. Isaac finally realized that he was sitting by his house with his brothers right next to him. “Are you okay?” Luke asked.” “No” Isaac replied. Isaiah said, “Well look at your body.” Isaac did, and saw a bruise from his neck down to his leg. It was pure black. After that happened, they went inside. Isaac was sore the next morning. The power line that Isaac had hit was broken down. A few hours earlier somebody ran into the pole, causing it to lean to the left. The power line was barely active. I learned not to run in the dark
