Isaac Giles Ms. Lehmann English 2-1B 3 December 201 Article Review Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends leave footprints in your heart.” Dorothy Rowe’s article “With Friends Like These” is a useful read because it helps determine what friendships mean. This article is good for readers because it could help a lot of people get more friends. Rowe has a doctorate in psychology and experience asa psychologist. The purpose of this story is to inform people abouthow their friendships work. Rowe’s writing style is informal. She uses first person pronouns and personal stories to connect with readers. She lacks outside research , so the article is not suitable for in-depth understanding. The formatting of the article is interesting. Rowe does not use section titles, which makes the article harder to understand. Her introduction does the state the main claim for her article, and it is at the very beginning. Rowe takes readers straight into the topic of her paper and keeps them there for the entirety of the article. Once the readers are given the main claim, Rowe supports it poorly, only using examples from her own work and his training as a psychologist. The article is poorly organized. The reason why it is poorly organized is because she does not explain enough about the article and does not explain what and where are the sections are. Perhaps the most relevant factor when considering whether to read the article or not is its content. Rowe’s introduction lays out her main claim that friendships are influenced by our sense of validation and perceptions of others. Her conclusion revisits the main claim effectively. Rowe writes about a variety of subjects, all working together to show that people choose friends based largely upon the ways in which they make us feel secure. While her claim is useful, she lacks outside research that could strengthen her article. This makes the article too weak for research purposes. Ultimately, Rowe’s article “With Friends Like These” is worth your time if you’re just interested in friendship. The author is qualified to talk about her subject and does so in a formal tone. She organizes her ideas ineffectively, but the subject matter is interesting.Allofthismeansthatthearticleisisveryuseful, and you should pick it up today.
